Phenotypically exceptional Echiniscus species (Heterotardigrada: Echiniscidae) from Argentina (Neotropics)

چکیده
One of the most extensive species radiations in tardigrade evolution took place Echiniscus phylogenetic line, which contains genus with over 120 described to date. The internal classification is historically based on two major sources variability: chaetotaxy, that arrangement and shape trunk appendages, sculpturing dorsal plates. These criteria allowed for delineation complexes, such as blumi-canadensis or spinulosus group. Recent analyses confirmed they represent monophyletic lineages. However, affinities some have not been sequenced are straightforward given their uncommon morphologies. In this paper, we present five found Argentina, constitute exemplary cases. aonikenk sp. nov. exhibits extraordinarily elongated cirri A , exceeding 50% body length, dorsoventrally flattened spines, including particularly wide spines E . a probable sister group complex. Furthermore, evelinae de Barros, 1942, reported here only third time ever, characterised by an extreme elongation often autapomorphic comprising epicuticular granules, pseudopores, distinct endocuticular reticulum pillars. Analogously E. apparently constitutes separate evolutionary lineage. Finally, pellucidus (the merokensis complex), peruvianus Binda & Pilato, 1994 syn. testudo complex) manuelae da Cunha do Nascimento Ribeiro, 1962 analysed. Morphological peculiarities revealed study discussed light taxonomy.

Echiniscus semifoveolatus (Heterotardigrada: Echiniscidae), a newly recorded species from China.
Echiniscus semifoveolatus Ito, 1993 (Tardigrada: Echiniscidae) is reported as a new record for China, and was collected from the Mt. Jinggang, Jiangxi, and the Wuyi Mountains, south-eastern China. This is the first report of this species from outside the type locality, Mt. Fuji, central Japan. The number of dorsal spines that arise from the posterior edge of the scapular plate ranges from zero ...
متن کاملIntegrative taxonomy allows the identification of synonymous species and the erection of a new genus of Echiniscidae (Tardigrada, Heterotardigrada).
The taxonomy of tardigrades is challenging as these animals demonstrate a limited number of useful morphological characters, therefore several species descriptions are supported by only minor differences. For example, Echiniscus oihonnae and Echiniscus multispinosus are separated exclusively by the absence or presence of dorsal spines at position Bd. Doubts were raised on the validity of these ...
متن کاملIntroduced Alien Plant Species in the Neotropics: the Panama Case
Non-insular tropical biomes appear relatively resistant to invasive alien species (IAS). While some argue fewer IAS in continental tropical communities is the result of the complexity of species-rich communities (e.g., Elton’s biological resistance hypothesis), others suggest lack of IAS might reflect fewer invasion opportunities, which could change with time. In effect, deforestation may lead ...

The workshop 'Species distribution models: applications, challenges and perspectives' held at Belo Horizonte (Brazil), 29-30 August 2011, aimed to review the state-of-the-art in species distribution modelling (SDM) in the neotropical realm. It brought together researchers in ecology, evolution, biogeography and conservation, with different backgrounds and research interests. The application of ...
متن کاملThe species of Scleroderma from Argentina, including a new species from the Nothofagus forest.
Five ectomycorrhizal species of Scleroderma were identified from herbarium and field-collected specimens from Argentina. A new hypogeous species, Scleroderma patagonicum, was recorded in association with native Nothofagus spp. in Patagonia. The epigeous species S. albidum, S. areolatum, S. bovista and S. citrinum were associated with various exotic tree species. A phylogenetic analysis based on...
